How to make South Indian Sambar Powder or Podi

This masala powder is very flavourful, it will definitely take your sambar to the next level. Once you start making your own masala powder, I am sure you would stop buying from outside. It might look like a difficult job. But its quite easy.

I don’t make a big batch. I make around 200 gms and store them at room temperature. You can just double the ingredients and make more and store them at the refrigerator for a long time as well. Every time I make sambar, I use 2 to 3 tsp of this masala powder. It depends on how strong you like.

My sambar powder does not look very fine like the store-bought ones. I make it a little crumbly not much and I like this way, if you want you can ground it to a fine powder consistency. But it dissolves well in sambar while cooking.

You can also use this masala powder for stir-fries and other curries similar to sambar. Let’s see the step by step process of making this powder.
