Bread Halwa Recipe – It’s a simple dessert made with very few ingredients like bread slices, ghee, sugar and water.

What is Halwa or Halva?

It’s a sweet or dessert and mostly it is very dense. The main ingredients are butter and sugar.

What bread we can use?

White Bread or Brown Bread, both goes well. I used whole wheat bread to avoid refined flour.

Can I use jaggery instead of Sugar?

Yes, you can use jaggery to make it more healthy. First, make a syrup out of jaggery, then remove the impurities and add it to the halwa instead of sugar.

Bread Halwa Recipe

Ingredients

  • 6 Bread slices
  • 1/4 cup Sugar Brown sugar
  • 2 to 3 tbsp Butter / Ghee
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom Powder
  • Cashews few pieces
  • 1/2 cup Water

Instructions

  • Remove or trim the edges of the bread. Toast it with little bit of ghee or butter.
  • Once the bread is toasted well, keep it aside.
  • Now, take a Kadai, add water and sugar, let it boil for few mins.
  • Meanwhile chop the bread into small pieces, you can also crumb. It’s up to you. When the water starts boiling, add those bread prices or crumbs and soak it for few mins.
  • Use ladle, start mashing the bread.
  • In between, roast the cashew nuts in ghee.
  • Slowly add the ghee 1 tbsp at a time to the bread mixture, give a good mix. At the end add cardamom powder and roasted cashew nuts as well.
  • Once it is combined well, it will start leaving from the Kadai and the whole bread mixture will come together. Immediately turn off the burner and transfer it to a bowl.
  • Bread Halwa is ready to serve.

Process:
