Falafel is a middle east recipe. People usually make this using Chickpeas or Beans. Chickpeas are high in protein, hence this is a very healthy snack for everyone. I deep fried the balls, you can also bake it. It doesn’t take much time, preparation is quite simple. I used raw chickpeas in this recipe. You can also use canned ones. Chickpeas need to be soaked overnight or minimum 8 hours, in case of using raw. My sister suggested this recipe to me. When you have guests coming home or kids party. This would be a great and an easy snack or side dish. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Ingredients:

  • Chickpeas / Kabuli Chana – 1 cup
  • Onion – 1 medium size (chopped)
  • Garlic – 5 to 6 cloves (chopped)
  • Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Black pepper powder – 1 tsp
  • Chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt – required level
  • Coriander leaves – 1/2 cup (chopped)
  • Oil – to deep fry
  • All purpose flour – 1 to 2 tbsp

Description:

  1. Get all the ingredients ready. If you are using raw chickpeas, soak for overnight or at least minimum 8 hours.
  2. Wash and drain the water completely from chickpeas and put in a blender, add chopped onions, garlic, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, pepper powder, chili powder and salt.
  3. Coarsely blend the mixture, do not add water to blend. Once it is done, transfer to a container. Check the mixture, if you are able to make a ball, it is fine, else add the all purpose flour to bind the mixture.
  4. Refrigerate the mixture for an hour. Then take out, make small balls and slightly flatten make an oval shape. The shape is up to your choice.
  5. Meanwhile, heat oil in a kadai or wide pan, once it is heated, on a medium flame, fry the balls.
  6. Once it is fried well on all sides, place the falafel on a paper towel to drain the excess oil.
  7. Serve this yummy falafel with your favorite dip. Mayonnaise also goes well with this.
