Pudina Chutney – Easy Mint leaves chutney recipe

Pudina or Mint leaves chutney is prepared with garlic and other spices. The color and flavor of the chutney go well with Idli and Dosa for breakfast. The yummy and slight tangy taste will definitely leave you very satisfied. Whenever we prepare this chutney at home. People always ask for one more dosa or idli than usual serve. It’s favorite for everyone. When I was young, I didn’t know the name of the chutney, I usually ask my mom, I want green chutney today… Please.. and I used to ask often. Same thing happened with my brothers as well. It’s nostalgic. This recipe is very simple. If you have the leaves handy. It hardly takes 20 mins to prepare. Ingredients:

  • Mint leaves – 1 cup
  • Onion – 1 medium sized
  • Garlic – 4 to 5 cloves
  • Tamarind – few pieces
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Red chili – 2 to 3
  • Salt – required level
  • Turmeric and Chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Coconut – 2 tbsp (grated)

Description:

  1. Get all the ingredients ready. Clean the mint leaves well. keep it aside.
  2. Take a wide pan, add oil into that, once the oil is heated, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and chana dal. Saute it for a min.
  3. Then add chopped onions and garlic, saute for few mins until the onion gets cooked.
  4. Add red chilies, saute again for 1 or 2 mins.
  5. Now add the mint leaves. mix everything well.
  6. Once the mint leaves are cooked well. They shrink and the quantity will become 1/3 of what we added.
  7. Now add salt, turmeric and chili powder. Mix everything well.
  8. Then add grated coconut and tamarind pieces. Give a good mix and turn off the burner.
  9. Once it is cool down, add it to the mixer jar, add 2 to 3 tbsp of water and grind it and make a paste out of it.
  10. Yummy and tangy mint (pudina) chutney is ready to serve.

Step by step process with picture representation:
