chutney Side Dishes

Curry leaves Chutney – We (Indians) use curry leaves in almost all food items, commonly used as a seasoning. It’s packed with numerous health benefits. It’s good for hair, skin, heart and fight infections. It helps to improve digestion and reduce bad cholesterol. I add this to all curries and vegetable stir fry items. People who live in a rural area, almost everyone has a curry leaf tree at home. They always use fresh leaves directly plucked from the tree. My mom makes this chutney often and we love it, Since I live in the city I usually buy it from the market. But I don’t find it fresh all the time. I got a bunch of leaves from my mom’s place. They looked so fresh and I wanted to try this recipe. It came out pretty well. This would go well with different dishes like idlis, dosa, sandwiches and snack items.

    1. Yes Deepika. There is a slight bitter taste in this recipe even after adding coconut. If you want to avoid that completely, add 1 tbsp of jaggery and roasted chana dal while grinding. It would help to suppress that bitterness.
