Jeera Rice | Cumin Rice Recipe

Very quick and easy recipe. The main ingredients are Jeera (Cumin) and Ghee. It’s a popular dish in all Indian restaurants under rice category. It blends well with basmati rice rather than sona masuri. It goes well with all types of dal varieties and other masala’s like Rajma, Paneer, Chole etc., It’s perfect for lunch box. 🙂

Jeera Rice | Cumin Rice

Ingredients:

  1. Basmati Rice – 1 cup
  2. Water – 2 cups
  3. Cumin Seeds – 2 tbsp
  4. Ghee – 2 tbsp
  5. Bay leaf – 1
  6. Cardamom – 2 to 3
  7. Cloves – 2 to 3
  8. Cinnamon – 1/2 inch
  9. Cashew nuts – 5 to 6 full pieces
  10. Black pepper – 1 tsp
  11. Salt – 1 tsp (required)
  12. Oil – 1 tbsp
  13. Curry and Coriander leaves – few

Process:

Get all the ingredients ready.

Soak the basmati rice for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse the rice and drain off the water and keep aside.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker / wide pan, add ghee into that.

Add cumin seeds, bay leaf, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and black pepper into that. Saute well for a min.

Cook in a medium flame for few mins. Then add basmati rice, salt and curry leaves into that. Mix everything well.

Now add two cups of water and cover with lid.

If you are cooking with a pressure cooker, then leave for 2 to 3 whistles or else allow it to cook for 15 to 20 mins. Once it is done, Let it cool down and open the lid.

Now mix the rice gently and transfer it to a container and garnish with coriander leaves.
