Lady Finger (Okra) is known as Vendakkai in Tamil and Bhindi in Hindi. It’s very good for Diabetes and Asthma, it’s rich in Fiber, Cholesterol consumption is less in this vegetable, it helps in preventing high blood pressure, obesity, colon cancer and other digestion related problems as well. It’s good for skin and hair also.
Many people like (Kids and elders) avoid this fry in spite of the goodness it holds is because of the stickiness. Unlike other vegetables, this one sticks too much to the pan and with other spices. When I started cooking, I found really difficult to cook this vegetable until I found the proper way of making this fry.

- Lady’s Finger – 200 gms (finely chopped)
- Oil – 3 tbsps
- Mustard seeds, urad dal and chana dal – 1 tbsp
- Onion – 1 medium size finely chopped
- Tomato – 1 medium size finely chopped
- Curry leaves – few
- Salt – required level
- Turmeric and Chili powder – 1 tbsp.
Chop the lady’s finger finely. Take a wide pan, add 1 tbsp of oil into that and add lady’s finger into that.
Saute well for few mins, leave it to get cooked for some time. saute occasionally in between. Once the color changes and the stickiness is gone, Transfer the lady’s finger in a bowl and keep it aside.
Take a pan, add 2 tbsp oil into that, after a min, add mustard seeds, urad dal and chana dal into that, saute well for a min, then add onions and curry leaves into that. Saute well for few mins.
Once the onion is cooked, add chopped tomatoes also into that, mix everything well.
Once the tomatoes started to blend, add turmeric powder, chili powder and salt into that, mix everything well, Once everything blends well, add cooked lady’s finger into that. Mix everything well.
Once everything is mixed well and cooked properly, Turn off the burner and transfer the fry into a bowl.
Non sticky, healthy and tasty Lady’s finger fry is ready to serve.
